Ayble Health raises $16M to scale virtual GI care

Virtual GI clinic with 16+ peer-reviewed clinical studies raises oversubscribed Series A led by Neon to expand AI-powered platform into autoimmune conditions

Ayble Health raises $16M to scale virtual GI care

Ayble Health, a Boston-based virtual gastroenterology clinic, announced September 16 it has closed an oversubscribed $16 million Series A round led by Neon, bringing total funding to more than $27 million since its 2020 founding. The investment arrives at what the company hopes is an inflection point: on September 3, Ayble became the first GI provider listed on Amazon Health's Benefits Connector, a move that extends its reach to roughly 80 million Americans through existing payer, employer, and health system contracts.

The timing is deliberate. Founder and CEO Sam Jactel, who built the company while managing his own inflammatory bowel disease, spent the better part of four years assembling clinical evidence before pursuing aggressive growth. That methodical approach caught the eye of Neon's Kimmy Scotti, who joined the round in part because Ayble resisted the startup impulse to scale first and validate later. "What Ayble has built is different," Scotti said, noting the firm "spent years building the clinical evidence before they scaled the business."

That evidence base, according to the company, now spans more than 16 peer-reviewed studies conducted with institutions including the Rome Foundation, University of Washington, Cleveland Clinic, Northwestern, and Sutter Health. In March 2026, the Peterson Health Technology Institute released an independent assessment comparing Ayble to four other virtual GI platforms: Oshi Health, Cylinder, Digbi, and Salvo. PHTI estimated net savings of $1,900 per IBS patient annually for wraparound solutions and approximately $2,900 per patient annually for what it termed clinician-led virtual GI care, the category where it placed Ayble. The company claims an average 47 percent symptom improvement within four weeks, sustained for at least a year, alongside a minimum 3:1 return on investment for partners. Ayble says it has also secured Validation Institute certification for irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease outcomes and was nominated last August for the Prix Galien USA's Best Digital Health Solution award.

Whether those results translate into durable market share remains an open question. According to PHTI's March 2026 report, one in five U.S. adults suffers from a gastrointestinal condition, contributing to an estimated $112 billion in annual healthcare spending. Wait times for new gastroenterology patients averaged 40 days in a 2025 AMN Healthcare physician survey, the longest among six specialties tracked. Yet the virtual GI space has grown crowded. Oshi Health raised $60 million in a Series C last October. Salvo Health announced an $8.5 million Series A in January. Cylinder, formerly Vivante Health, pulled in $16 million back in 2022.

Ayble's response has been to lean into what Jactel calls a multidisciplinary care model. The platform pairs GI-trained physicians, dietitians, behavioral health specialists, pharmacists, and health coaches with proprietary AI tools that the company says personalize engagement and care delivery. Patients get unlimited chat and video visits, diagnostic ordering, and tailored nutrition and behavioral programs, typically for copays between $0 and $30 per session. The company declined to disclose technical specifics about its AI systems, though it emphasized that the technology supports rather than replaces clinicians.

Partnerships have been building. Priority Health rolled out Ayble to all Michigan commercial members in June. Castlight added the platform in September. Cleveland Clinic announced a collaboration in October 2024 to co-develop behavioral and nutrition content, a stamp of institutional credibility that Jactel hopes will open doors with other health systems.

The fresh capital will fund an expansion beyond digestive health into autoimmune conditions more broadly, an adjacent market where Jactel believes the same care model can apply. The company will also deepen its AI-clinician integration and invest in data-driven personalization across the patient journey. Jactel, who earned an MBA from Northwestern's Kellogg School before launching the startup, framed the move in personal terms. "I built Ayble because I'm an Inflammatory Bowel Disease patient," he said.

Upfront Ventures and M13, which co-led Ayble's $4.6 million seed round in November 2022, both returned for the Series A. Other participants included Unum Ventures, Cleveland Clinic Ventures, DigiTx Partners, Accomplice, and a group of strategic angel investors. LinkedIn lists the company at 51 to 200 employees, though as of early September only 29 current employees were shown on the platform. The company operates from offices on Appleton Street in Boston's Leather District.

For now, Ayble remains smaller than some competitors, but Jactel is betting that clinical rigor and institutional partnerships will matter more than headcount as the virtual care market matures. The Amazon Health listing gives the company distribution leverage it lacked six months ago. Whether that translates into the kind of growth investors expect from a Series A remains to be seen.
