BR-DGE Raises £10M as Transactions Surge 15x in Two Years

Edinburgh payment orchestration platform secures funding from gaming-focused Bettor Capital, targeting 100M monthly transactions by year-end as it expands globally.

BR-DGE Raises £10M as Transactions Surge 15x in Two Years

The payment orchestration business has never been sexier—or at least that's what investors are betting on these days.

BR-DGE, an Edinburgh-based company building what it calls the "intelligence layer" for digital payments, recently closed a £10 million funding round with Bettor Capital, a U.S. firm focused squarely on gaming infrastructure. The investment, stated by Dealroom.co, comes as BR-DGE claims a remarkable 15-fold surge in platform volumes over the past two years, though the company remains tight-lipped about absolute revenue figures.

Whether Bettor Capital formally led the round is a matter of some confusion. Several outlets characterized the gaming-focused investor as the lead, but FinTech Futures noted in its roundup that BR-DGE declined to name one. Existing backers also participated, though their identities weren't disclosed—a level of opacity not uncommon in later-stage fintech rounds where relationships matter more than headlines.

Riding the Gaming Wave

What's clear is that BR-DGE has found a sweet spot in online gaming, an industry notorious for complex payment flows, fraud risk, and regulatory headaches. According to data accessed on BR-DGE's website in July 2026, the company processed £51.4 million in pay-ins during the Cheltenham Festival earlier this year, peaking at 34 transactions per second on Gold Cup Day. For context, that's the kind of throughput that can make or break a bookmaker during a major racing event—when milliseconds and uptime mean everything.

Recent customer wins include The Hut Group, the Manchester-based e-commerce conglomerate, and Betfred, the British betting operator. According to BR-DGE, monthly transaction volumes are on track to exceed 100 million by year-end, though that projection carries the usual caveats about forward-looking statements.

"The next generation of payment infrastructure is not about moving money; it's about optimising every transaction," CEO Thomas Gillan said in a statement that reads like a pitch deck slide but gestures at something real: the shift from pipes to intelligence.

What BR-DGE Actually Does

Payment orchestration might sound like tech jargon, but it addresses a genuine pain point for merchants juggling dozens of payment processors, fraud tools, and regional regulations. BR-DGE's platform connects to over 400 points across the payments ecosystem—banks, processors, alternative payment methods—and uses routing logic to optimize approval rates, reduce costs, and keep transactions flowing even when individual providers hiccup.

Think of it as air traffic control for payments. The company offers network tokenization (replacing card details with secure tokens), white-label orchestration for payment service providers, and real-time decisioning that routes transactions based on cost, speed, and likelihood of approval.

Jake Kleiner, a partner at Bettor Capital, pointed to this trifecta of performance, resilience, and data as the investment thesis. "BR-DGE has become core infrastructure powering the gaming industry," he said, a statement that may be aspirational but hints at the strategic value investors see in picks-and-shovels plays during a fintech gold rush.

The Road Ahead

The fresh capital will fund platform enhancements, geographic expansion, and what BR-DGE describes as "significant new market and product launches" in the coming months. The company also tapped Perry Blacher as Chairman, adding boardroom heft as it scales.

BR-DGE was founded in 2018 by Brian Coburn, a former CTO at Stagecoach who now serves as Chief Strategy Officer. The company operates under the legal entity Comcarde Limited and has raised capital before, though earlier round sizes remain murky. A 2022 press release mentioned "substantial follow-on investment" without attaching a number—a frequent tell that either the amount was modest or the company preferred discretion.

For now, BR-DGE appears well-positioned in a sector where complexity equals opportunity. Whether it can translate platform traction into sustainable margins—and fend off competition from giants like Stripe and Adyen, which also offer orchestration features—remains the open question. But with gaming operators hungry for any edge in a cutthroat market, perhaps there's room for a specialized player after all.
