Nick Knuppe spent years watching European founders wrestle with the same tedious back-office grind: toggling between separate platforms for banking, payroll, invoicing and tax filings, then paying accountants to reconcile the mess. Now he's betting €6.6 million that Dutch entrepreneurs will pay to make it all disappear.
Neno, Knuppe's Amsterdam-based startup, announced the seed round August 25, 2026. AlleyCorp led the financing, joined by Motive Partners, firstminute capital and a roster of individual backers from Hugging Face, Mollie, Juni, Deel, Miro, Coinbase, PayPal and Navro. The pitch is straightforward: Combine business banking, payroll software and accounting into a single AI-powered workspace, then automate the bookkeeping that usually devours founder time.
The company soft-launched earlier this year and has signed almost 200 customers, including Y Combinator-backed companies Airweave and Rally, alongside Dutch ventures like SOUS, FeedbackFruits and The Cirqle. For payment services, Neno operates under Swan's e-money license, as listed in De Nederlandsche Bank's registry.
What Neno calls its "agentic general ledger" pulls in transaction data from business accounts, corporate cards and accounts-payable systems, then runs reconciliation and VAT processing in the background. Knuppe describes the result as a "single 'done-for-you' state of work" where reporting happens automatically. The company claims the system cuts reconciliation time by 80 percent and trims annualized accounting fees by a fifth.
The platform bundles Dutch business incorporation, accounts, cards, invoicing, bill pay, bookkeeping, payroll and tax filings. Payroll runs €18 per payslip monthly at the entry tier; higher-priced plans include Slack channels to human accountants and support for cross-border hires in the U.S. and U.K.
Knuppe brings a marketing pedigree from Mollie, Juni and Booking.com. A 2021 Product Marketing Alliance list credited him with shepherding more than 60 go-to-market launches across Europe and sub-Saharan Africa during earlier stints at Booking.com, Tencent and Ogilvy. He told Dutch publication Friso van de Stadt in April that he's aiming squarely at Exact and Twinfield, the incumbents that dominate local accounting software alongside AFAS, Visma's Nmbrs and Moneybird.

The investor lineup reflects a familiar thesis. "AI-native financial infrastructure with embedded professional services is one of the most compelling untouched opportunities in modern fintech today," Luc Ryan-Schreiber, an investor at AlleyCorp, said Monday. AlleyCorp, the New York firm founded by Kevin Ryan, focuses on pre-seed and seed deals with occasional Series A follow-ons; it announced a $335 million fund in July. Motive Partners, which has raised $6.4 billion across strategies, invested through its early-stage arm Motive Ventures. London's firstminute capital manages $500 million across more than 170 portfolio companies.
Neno enters a suddenly crowded market. U.S. startups Synthetic raised $10 million from Khosla Ventures in May; Juno closed a $12 million seed in April. Digits markets its own "Agentic General Ledger" to accounting firms. What sets Neno apart, the company argues, is the embedded-services model bundling human accountants with software and banking rails, rather than selling software alone.
The startup pegs its addressable market at €200 billion annually across accounting, tax and professional services for 26 million European SMEs. Proceeds from the seed round will fund Neno Labs, a research initiative focused on what the company calls Ambient AI, and hiring across accounting, tax and go-to-market functions. Expansion to additional European markets is planned for next year.

Crunchbase lists the headcount between 11 and 50 employees, though a LinkedIn post from the company noted the team held steady at six people for months before doubling in size in a single hiring sprint. Early employees came from Adyen, Mollie, Juni and Booking.com—a roster that suggests Knuppe is pulling talent from the same fintech networks he once navigated himself.
