ROXFIT Raises £1.9M to Scale AI Training Platform for Hybrid Athletes

UK fitness tech startup reaches 260,000 users across 185 countries as HYROX participation surges. DSW Ventures leads seed round to expand AI-powered coaching and gym partnerships.

ROXFIT Raises £1.9M to Scale AI Training Platform for Hybrid Athletes

The hybrid fitness craze—think burpees between treadmill sprints, rowers punctuated by lunges—has been picking up steam in gyms across Europe and beyond. Now the startups backing this peculiar corner of athleticism are beginning to attract serious capital.

ROXFIT, a UK-based platform built around personalized training for HYROX and similar multi-discipline endurance races, announced in early March 2026 that it had closed a £1.9 million seed round led by DSW Ventures. Peter Markham, a strategic angel investor, joined the deal alongside SWIM Capital and York Angels, which had backed the company previously. The round values the startup at—well, the founders aren't saying. But the financing brings ROXFIT's total raised to roughly £2.7 million since it incorporated in January 2024.

Not a household name, perhaps. Yet the company claims to have amassed more than 260,000 users spanning 185 countries, a figure that suggests either genuine traction or extremely generous counting methods. Either way, it's a notable uptick from the 80,000 users ROXFIT reported when it raised an £800,000 pre-seed round last May, also led by DSW Ventures.

Co-founders Ben Wilson and Joey Allott built ROXFIT around an AI coaching assistant they've named HYPE—an acronym the company hasn't explained, though one imagines it stands for something vaguely motivational. HYPE generates custom workout plans by ingesting data from wearables: Apple Watch and Garmin devices, synced through integrations with Strava and the app's own analytics engine. The iOS version sports a 4.9-star rating from 267 reviews as of early March, which is either a testament to careful product design or a user base still small enough to care.

Allott comes from Runna, a running training app that Strava acquired in 2025, giving him a front-row view of how niche fitness software gets absorbed into larger platforms. Whether ROXFIT ends up following a similar path remains an open question.

The HYROX Effect

HYROX, for the uninitiated, is a standardized fitness race format: eight one-kilometer runs interspersed with functional workout stations—SkiErgs, sled pushes, rowing machines, and the like. It's grueling, repeatable, and increasingly popular. Organizers projected participation would surpass 1.3 million athletes by 2026, up from just over 500,000 during the 2024/25 season. PUMA extended its global partnership with HYROX through 2030 last October, a signal that institutional money sees staying power in hybrid fitness.

"Hybrid fitness is one of the fastest-growing sports globally," Wilson said in a statement accompanying the funding news. "We're building the technology layer that helps athletes train with precision and truly understand their performance." It's the sort of language every fitness-tech founder deploys—precision, performance, data-driven insights—but in fairness, the market appears to be validating the pitch.

Doug Quinn of DSW Ventures pointed to the platform's growth trajectory: "ROXFIT has grown to more than 260,000 users and we see strong potential ahead." A measured endorsement, though venture capitalists rarely announce seed rounds for companies they expect to flatline.

The startup released version 2.0 of its app in November 2025, adding improved Garmin integration, support for additional languages, and enhanced social features—leaderboards, live race tracking, the connective tissue that turns solitary training into something vaguely communal. ROXFIT also landed at No. 48 on the Startups 100 list published in mid-January, a ranking that carries some weight in the UK tech ecosystem.

What Comes Next

The new capital will fund what every early-stage startup says it will fund: product development, team expansion (engineers and AI specialists, in this case), and business development. ROXFIT plans to grow its global ambassador network and deepen partnerships with gyms and training communities, though the company declined to name specific partners in its announcement.

Downloads doubled from roughly 90,000 to over 180,000 in the back half of 2025, according to DSW Ventures, before accelerating further into the new year. That kind of momentum is difficult to sustain without either paid acquisition at scale or organic virality—and the latter is rare in fitness tech. The company will need to prove it can retain users, not just onboard them.

For now, ROXFIT occupies an interesting position: too early to call a breakout, but growing fast enough to merit attention from investors who believe hybrid fitness is more than a fad. Whether it becomes the Strava of HYROX or fades as the next fitness trend emerges—well, ask again in eighteen months.
