Nari Labs is a South Korea-based open-source AI startup founded by two undergraduate students, Toby Kim and Jaeyong Sung. The company develops Dia, a 1.6-billion parameter text-to-speech model capable of generating ultra-realistic, emotionally expressive dialogue from text prompts. Built with zero funding using Google's TPU Research Cloud, Dia supports voice cloning, customizable speaker tones, and nonverbal audio cues such as laughter, coughs, and sighs. The model is available under the Apache 2.0 license on GitHub and Hugging Face, targeting developers, researchers, and content creators across gaming, audiobooks, virtual assistants, and accessibility applications.
