Dr. Andrew Jenkins is Founder and CEO of Kinewell Energy, a North East England cleantech company developing AI-powered software to accelerate and reduce the cost of offshore wind development. Recognised as Gamechangers by RenewableUK's Global Offshore Wind Awards, he leads one of the most innovative companies in the renewable energy sector.
Dr. Jenkins earned a Masters of Engineering in New and Renewable Energy with honours from Durham University in 2010, then completed a PhD at Newcastle University, where he began building Kinewell Energy. He first won the Newcastle heat of a Santander business plan competition in 2014, catalysing the company's commercial launch.
With over 14 years of engineering experience in renewables and over 12 years pioneering AI-driven offshore wind optimisation, Dr. Jenkins has been at the forefront of applying artificial intelligence to complex infrastructure design. His vision is to bring down costs and reduce the time it takes to develop new wind farms globally.
Kinewell Energy has secured contracts with major energy companies including SSE Renewables, Equinor, and Parkwind, and recently raised £750,000 in pre-seed funding from Mercia Ventures, its first external investment. The company has also received grant support from InnovateUK's FastStart Programme and the ORE Catapult's TIGGOR programme.
Kinewell's flagship KLOC software has been deployed on dozens of offshore wind projects across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, delivering cabling cost savings of up to £30m per GW and reducing overall wind farm costs by around 6%. The company's solutions have helped the world's largest renewable energy producers save hundreds of millions of pounds.
