Dr. Cara Griffiths is the Scientific Co-Founder and CTO of SugaROx, a pioneering agri-biotech spinout from Oxford University and Rothamsted Research developing precision crop biostimulants based on the natural plant molecule Trehalose-6-Phosphate (T6P).
With 16+ years decoding plant growth and performance, Cara held senior research positions at Rothamsted Research and Monash University, focusing on molecular biology, carbon allocation, and desiccation tolerance in crop species.
Cara co-invented SugaROx's platform technology alongside Dr. Matthew Paul and Prof. Ben Davis, with breakthrough research published in Nature, Nature Biotechnology, and Plant Physiology, and the technology protected by 18 granted patents.
She has driven SugaROx from lab bench to field over a decade, leading the company to raise over $4M in funding from The Mosaic Company, Future Planet Capital, Regenerate Ventures, and UK Research and Innovation, and securing a Series A investment of £2.5M from Mosaic in 2026.
SugaROx's T6P biostimulant has demonstrated 3 to 15% yield improvements across 40+ trials in wheat, barley, soybean, and maize, and the company was selected as one of just seven global cohort members in The Yield Lab Institute's inaugural H.A.R.V.E.S.T. AgTech programme.
