
Dr. James McIlroy is a qualified medical doctor and Founder and CEO of EnteroBiotix, widely recognised as a pioneer and thought leader in applying the microbiome to treat disease.
James holds an Honours degree in Physiology from the University of Edinburgh and a degree in Medicine (MBChB) from the University of Aberdeen, graduating with distinction, and was later appointed Honorary Lecturer in Healthcare Innovation at the School of Medicine.
He started EnteroBiotix at age 21 as a medical student and led the company to become the first in the world to secure an MHRA license to manufacture microbial products derived from faecal donations.
James is also Co-Founder of EthosBio CIC, a social enterprise embedding impactful entrepreneurship in the life sciences sector, and has been recognised with awards including Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year and Young Pioneer of the Year by Herald Scotland.
EnteroBiotix has raised in excess of £65m since founding, runs active Phase 2 clinical trials across IBS, liver cirrhosis, and blood cancer, and holds strategic partnerships with Imperial College London.
