Dr. Matthew Paul is Scientific Founder at SugaROx, a UK agri-biotech spinout commercialising next-generation crop biostimulants based on the natural plant sugar trehalose-6-phosphate (T6P).
Dr. Paul is Lead Plant Scientist and Principal Scientist at Rothamsted Research, where he pioneered over 25 years of cutting-edge research on T6P and its role in regulating plant energy and crop yield.
He co-invented SugaROx's platform technology alongside Dr. Cara Griffiths and Prof. Ben Davis (Oxford University), with the underlying science published in top journals including Nature, PNAS, and Nature Biotechnology.
Dr. Paul led the IWYP-funded project Transforming Yield through Source-Sink Synchronization (2018-2021) and has provided expert evidence to the UK House of Commons on Innovation and Global Food Security.
SugaROx's T6P biostimulant has demonstrated wheat yield increases of 5-22% across trials in the UK, Canada, the US, Germany, and India, and the company was named 2024 Agriculture Chemical Manufacturer of the Year for Innovation and Excellence.
