Erik Gafni is Co-Founder and CTO at TypeSafe AI, a frontier AI lab building machine-native, composable intelligence designed to serve as a reliable software primitive for developers and production systems.

Erik is a repeat founder, previously co-founding Ravel Biotechnology where he built multi-modal deep learning models for DNA sequencing, secured $9.5M in funding, and led a collaboration resulting in a Nature publication.

Erik holds numerous publications and patents, was an early employee at two unicorns (Invitae and Freenome), and famously placed 44th at the US Chess Nationals in elementary school.

He has held senior roles at Freenome and Invitae, led ML-driven production pipelines, served as CEO and Head of AI at Eventum.ai, and guided research at Harvard Medical School.

TypeSafe AI emerged from stealth in September 2026 with a $40M seed round led by DCVC, one of the largest seed rounds in AI history, ranking in the 99th percentile of all-time seed deals.
