Errico Armandillo

Dr. Errico Armandillo is Co-Founder and CTO at AIRMO, a Munich-based space-tech startup building the world's most advanced greenhouse gas monitoring system to detect and quantify methane emissions from air and space.
Armandillo spent more than 30 years at the European Space Agency, rising to Head of Optoelectronics, where he became the world's leading expert in micro-LiDAR instrumentation for space applications.
He holds nearly half a century of expertise in space optics, instrumentation, and system engineering, and is recognized as the global authority on miniaturizing LiDAR technology for satellite platforms.
At AIRMO, Armandillo leads the technical development of the world's first active spaceborne greenhouse gas monitoring instrument, combining a SWIR imager with micro-LiDAR shrunk to fit a small satellite, delivering measurements twice as accurate as existing technologies.
AIRMO has raised over 10M EUR across pre-seed and seed rounds, deployed sensors commercially across Europe, Central Asia, and MENA, and counts Uniper and TotalEnergies among its clients, with a first satellite launch planned for 2027.
