Frank Slootman

Frank Slootman serves as Chairman at Snowflake, the cloud-based data platform company, after retiring as CEO in February 2024. He is known for growing companies founded by others and has taken three companies through successful IPOs.
Slootman earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in economics from Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Netherlands before moving to the United States in 1982. He held management positions at Compuware before becoming CEO of Data Domain in 2003.
Slootman has led three companies through IPOs (Data Domain in 2007, ServiceNow in 2012, and Snowflake in 2020, the largest software IPO in history). He authored the book Amp It Up about leading for hypergrowth.
At ServiceNow, Slootman grew revenue from $100M to $1.4B from 2011 to 2017. At Snowflake, he led the company through its record-setting $3.4 billion IPO in September 2020, with backing from Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway and Salesforce.
Snowflake's IPO valued the company at over $33 billion, surging to $70 billion on opening day. Under Slootman's leadership at Data Domain, the company was acquired by EMC for $2.4 billion in 2009.
