Garth Sheldon-Coulson

Garth Sheldon-Coulson is Co-Founder and CEO of Panthalassa, a public benefit corporation pioneering autonomous, wave-powered floating data centers for AI computing in the open ocean.
Garth holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School and an S.M. from MIT, and previously served as an AI and energy researcher at Bridgewater Associates and a Research Fellow at Stanford University.
Garth identified the open ocean as one of only three energy sources on Earth with tens of terawatts of new capacity potential, alongside solar and nuclear, and built Panthalassa around the insight of using energy in place rather than transmitting it to shore.
Under Garth's leadership, Panthalassa raised a $140M Series B led by Peter Thiel, bringing total funding to $210M and pushing the company to a near-$1B valuation, with backers including John Doerr, Marc Benioff, and Max Levchin.
Panthalassa has deployed three prototype generations at sea, grown to 120 employees, and is on track for commercial deployments in 2027, targeting a planetary-scale clean energy platform for AI infrastructure.
