Geoffrey De Smet

Geoffrey De Smet is Co-Founder and CTO at Timefold, a Belgian PlanningAI company pioneering automated scheduling and routing optimization for enterprises worldwide.
Geoffrey earned his Bachelor's degree from Hogeschool Gent and built his career as a Java consultant, AI researcher, and enterprise project lead before joining Red Hat in 2010, where he led OptaPlanner for over a decade.
Geoffrey created OptaPlanner in 2006 as a personal open source project, dedicating nearly two decades to making planning optimization accessible, and is recognized as a global expert and international speaker in the field.
After Red Hat ended support for OptaPlanner in 2022, Geoffrey co-founded Timefold in early 2023 alongside CEO Maarten Vandenbroucke, forking the OptaPlanner codebase and securing over 8M in funding from Lakestar and Smartfin.
Timefold is the first company to standardize complex planning and scheduling solutions into APIs, with its technology helping enterprises cut vehicle routing travel time by up to 25% and saving large organizations hundreds of millions of euros annually.
