Geordie Rose

Geordie Rose is Founder of D-Wave Quantum Inc., the world's first commercial quantum computing company pioneering quantum annealing technology. He is a Canadian theoretical physicist and serial entrepreneur.
Rose earned his PhD in theoretical physics from the University of British Columbia and graduated first in his class with a BEng in Engineering Physics from McMaster University. He co-founded D-Wave in 1999 with Haig Farris, Bob Wiens, and Alexandre Zagoskin.
Rose was named 2011 Canadian Innovator of the Year and listed on Foreign Policy Magazine's 100 Leading Global Thinkers in 2013 for pioneering quantum computing development. He coined Rose's Law, predicting the doubling of qubits every 18 months, similar to Moore's Law.
D-Wave has raised over $256M in funding and went public on the NYSE in August 2022, selling quantum computers to Google, NASA, Lockheed Martin, and multiple Fortune 500 companies. Rose later founded Kindred Systems (acquired by Ocado Group in 2020) and Sanctuary AI (raised $140M), both focused on robotics and artificial intelligence.
D-Wave's quantum computers feature over 5,000 qubits and have processed more than 200 million problems submitted by customers across optimization, AI, and research applications. The company was featured on Time Magazine's cover in 2014 and listed on MIT Tech Review's 50 Smartest Companies.
