Georgi Trenchev

Georgi Trenchev is CTO and Co-Founder of D-CRBN, a Belgian deep-tech spin-off pioneering patented plasma technology to recycle industrial CO2 into valuable carbon monoxide for use in e-fuels, chemicals, and polymers.
A physicist and engineer educated at the University of Antwerp, Georgi conducted doctoral research at the renowned PLASMANT research group before co-founding D-CRBN in 2021 to bring laboratory plasma science to industrial scale.
In 2023, the Plasma Physics Division of the European Physical Society awarded Georgi the Innovation Prize for bringing plasma-based CO2 conversion from the laboratory to industry, recognising his rare ability to bridge deep science and commercial application.
Georgi co-founded D-CRBN alongside CEO Gill Scheltjens and CCO David Ziegler as a spin-off from the University of Antwerp, establishing the BluePlasma consortium with industrial giants including ArcelorMittal, BASF, ENGIE, and VOPAK.
D-CRBN secured a highly competitive EUR 2.5M EIC Accelerator grant in 2024, being selected from over 1,083 proposals as the sole Belgian recipient, and followed this with a EUR 17.5M Series A to scale its first commercial industrial demonstration units.
