Gill Scheltjens

Gill Scheltjens is Co-Founder and CEO of D-CRBN, a Belgium-based climate tech startup pioneering industrial-scale CO2-to-CO conversion using patented plasma technology.
An experienced chemical engineer educated at Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Gill transitioned from a specialized research role at UAntwerp's PLASMANT group to co-founding D-CRBN as a university spin-off in 2021.
Gill is a passionate advocate for Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU), arguing that turning CO2 into a circular feedstock creates more industrial value than underground storage, and has spoken at the World Economic Forum in Davos and the European CO2 Summit.
Under his leadership, D-CRBN secured a 2.5 million euro grant from the European Innovation Council Accelerator and launched a landmark industrial trial with steel giant ArcelorMittal in Ghent, converting blast-furnace CO2 into usable carbon monoxide.
D-CRBN's plasma process uses roughly one-third of the energy of conventional CO2 conversion methods, with ambitions to scale from 1,000 to 10,000 tonnes of CO2 processed annually and plans for a future facility capable of handling 1 million tonnes per year.
