Jacob Lang

Jacob Lang is the Founder and CEO of Krokos Bio, a California-based agricultural biotechnology startup pioneering plant cell culture technology to produce high-value botanical ingredients like saffron at scale.
Jacob earned a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of California, Davis, and built deep expertise in bioprocess development through roles at industry leaders including Genentech, Grifols, and Culture Biosciences.
Jacob recognized that rare botanicals like saffron are highly vulnerable to climate shocks, geopolitical instability, and fragile supply chains, and saw plant cell culture as a cost-effective and resilient alternative to traditional field-grown production.
Under Jacob's leadership, Krokos Bio secured seed funding from Big Idea Ventures' Global Food Innovation Fund II, was awarded a $305,000 NSF SBIR Phase I grant, and was selected for the BEAM Circular Accelerator powered by gener8tor.
Krokos Bio's bioreactor-based platform enables year-round, geography-independent production of full-spectrum botanical ingredients, targeting the food, wellness, and cosmetics industries with a domestically sourced saffron supply chain.
