Jeffrey Shainline

Jeffrey Shainline is the Founder and CEO of Great Sky, a pioneering AI hardware company rebuilding artificial intelligence from first principles using superconducting optoelectronic technology.
Jeffrey earned a BA from the University of Colorado Boulder and a PhD in Physics from Brown University, then spent nearly 12 years as a Physicist and Staff Scientist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
Jeffrey's research on superconducting optoelectronic networks has been cited over 5,000 times, and he received the prestigious Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers in 2024.
At NIST, Jeffrey led foundational research into neuromorphic computing and co-authored more than 20 peer-reviewed papers, laying the groundwork for Great Sky's Superconducting Optoelectronic Network (SOEN) platform.
Great Sky raised a $14M seed round led by Bison Ventures and has completed successful chip tape-outs, with its SOEN platform capable of processing over 60 million video frames per second, orders of magnitude beyond conventional GPU-based systems.
