John Collison

John Collison is Co-Founder and President at Stripe, the payment infrastructure company he co-founded in 2010 with his brother Patrick. Stripe has grown into a global powerhouse, processing over $1 trillion in payments last year.
In 2007, John co-founded Shuppa with his brother Patrick, which merged with Auctomatic in 2008 and was acquired for $5 million when John was just 17. He attended Harvard University where he studied physics before starting Stripe in 2010.
John achieved stellar results in the Irish Leaving Certificate examination with 8 A1 and 2 A2 grades. He became the youngest self-made billionaire in 2016 when Stripe reached a $9.2 billion valuation.
Stripe has raised $9.81B in funding from investors like General Catalyst, Sequoia Capital and Andreessen Horowitz, with a current valuation of $91.5B. The Collison brothers serve as President and CEO respectively.
In 2024, payments made through Stripe totaled $1.4 trillion, an increase of 40% compared to $1 trillion in 2023. Three out of four UK adults have made a payment via Stripe in the last year.
