Jon Xu

Jon is a General Partner at Y Combinator, where he selects, advises, and supports early-stage startups building enduring companies. He brings deep technical experience and firsthand startup expertise to help founders navigate the challenges of building transformative businesses.
Jon graduated from MIT with a degree in Computer Science and worked at Microsoft on mobile data synchronization protocols. He co-founded FutureAdvisor in 2010 as part of YC's Summer 2010 batch, one of the first robo-advisors democratizing quality investment management.
Jon has unique expertise in building both high-trust consumer products and B2B platforms for regulated industries, particularly in fintech. He previously served as Board Director at Wahed and Entrepreneur in Residence at Canvas Ventures.
FutureAdvisor raised $21.5 million in venture funding from Sequoia Capital and Canvas Venture Fund before being acquired by BlackRock in 2015 for between $150 million and $200 million. Jon continued as Managing Director at BlackRock, leading product and engineering for their enterprise robo-advisor platform.
At BlackRock, Jon built an enterprise-grade robo-advisor platform serving major financial institutions and managing over $2 billion in client assets. He became a YC Visiting Partner in 2024 and was promoted to General Partner in 2025, now helping shape the next generation of ambitious founders.
