Jonas Buchli is Co-Founder and CTO at Fusionality, a Lausanne-based deep tech company building the control systems and simulation infrastructure powering the next generation of fusion reactors.

Jonas holds a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from ETH Zurich and a PhD from EPFL Lausanne, and served as an SNF Assistant Professor for Agile and Dexterous Robotics at ETH Zurich from 2012 to 2018.

Jonas co-authored the landmark 2022 Nature paper on magnetic control of tokamak plasmas using deep reinforcement learning, a collaboration between EPFL and Google DeepMind that directly inspired Fusionality.

As a Senior Research Scientist at Google DeepMind, Jonas led teams in robotics, optimal control, and reinforcement learning for physical systems, accumulating over 15,000 scholarly citations.

Fusionality raised a $3.7M pre-seed round co-led by Founderful and Playfair, targeting the 30-plus privately funded fusion companies worldwide that all face the same plasma control bottleneck.
