Joseph Hurst-Croft

Joseph Hurst-Croft is the Founder and CEO of ARC Ride, a pioneering battery-as-a-service electric mobility company transforming urban transportation across Africa.
Joseph studied Politics with Geography at Loughborough University and later earned a master's degree specialising in African political economy, which drew him to Africa where he witnessed firsthand the challenges of economic disparity and mobility.
Joseph co-founded ARC Group in 2011 before launching ARC Ride in 2019, channelling over a decade of on-the-ground African development experience into building scalable clean energy infrastructure.
Under his leadership, ARC Ride has secured $33.3M in funding from backers including Novastar Ventures, Norrsken22, IFC, British International Investment, and Mirova, and has expanded operations across Kenya, South Africa, Ghana, Tanzania, and Uganda.
ARC Ride now operates 170+ automated battery swap stations across Nairobi, has impacted 886 jobs, and is positioning itself as Africa's leading battery-swapping network for electric two- and three-wheelers.
