Josh Mackanic

Josh Mackanic is Co-Founder and CEO of CivilGrid, a civil design platform that consolidates underground utility, environmental, and geotechnical site data into a single collaborative map for engineers, utilities, and infrastructure owners.
Josh earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech, an MS from UC Berkeley, and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and spent nearly a decade at Pacific Gas and Electric developing solar infrastructure and managing a $150M+ valve automation program.
A licensed Professional Engineer with an MBA, Josh combines rare technical depth with business acumen, having witnessed firsthand how fragmented underground data causes costly field surprises and dangerous utility strikes across the construction industry.
At PG&E, Josh developed utility-owned solar farms and led gas transmission mapping and safety automation initiatives before co-founding CivilGrid in 2020 alongside fellow Wharton alum Brandon Cohen.
CivilGrid has raised $28.4M including a $26M Series A led by Spark Capital, serves major clients including PG&E and Atmos Energy, and is helping de-risk billions in annual infrastructure project spend across the United States.
