Kai Zhao is the Founder and CEO of VideoTutor, a Gen Z-led AI education startup based in Sunnyvale, California that transforms any question into a personalized animated lesson using a proprietary LLM and Manim rendering pipeline.

After graduating high school in China and relocating to Silicon Valley to study at San Jose State University, Kai launched multiple edtech ventures, including a Y Combinator-backed AI education startup and stints at MathGPTPro and Collegebot.ai.

Kai co-founded VideoTutor in 2025 alongside a Google AI engineer and a college roommate, driven by the belief that AI tutoring must go beyond text responses to generate real visual instruction.

VideoTutor raised an $11M seed round led by YZi Labs (Changpeng Zhao), with participation from Baidu Ventures, JinQiu Fund (ByteDance-affiliated), Amino Capital, and BridgeOne Capital, chosen from over ten competing term sheets.

VideoTutor has surpassed 50 million TikTok views, served over 40,000 students in exam preparation, generated 100,000+ AI teaching videos, and attracted enterprise interest from Tencent and Xiaotiancai.
