Kara Peterson

Kara Peterson is Co-Founder and CEO of Descrybe.ai, an award-winning justice tech platform using AI to democratize access to U.S. case law and address the access-to-justice crisis.
Kara built a distinguished career in marketing and communications, serving as Chief Communications Officer at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Executive Director of Communications at Boston University School of Public Health, where she developed a deep commitment to social justice. She holds an MBA from Boston University Questrom School of Business and an undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin.
Named a Woman of Legal Tech 2024 by the American Bar Association, Kara is a recognized voice for responsible AI and a frequent speaker and podcast guest on AI for social good. She co-hosts Building AI Boston, a show dedicated to broadening the conversation around AI.
Kara co-founded Descrybe.ai in July 2023 alongside her husband and CTO Richard DiBona, leading marketing and business development while championing privacy-first, mission-driven product design. The company has earned recognition including two American Legal Technology Awards 2024, a Silver Anthem Award, and finalist status at the Legalweek Leaders in Tech Law Awards and Webby Awards.
Since launch, Descrybe.ai has made over 3.6 million U.S. judicial opinions searchable and summarized in both English and Spanish, with no login required. In March 2026, the company launched DescrybeLM, a purpose-built legal reasoning engine that outperforms general-purpose AI models including ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini on standardized bar exam benchmarks.
