Laura Ashforth

Laura Ashforth is Co-Founder and CEO of Lateral, a healthcare and financial wellbeing platform designed specifically for people over 60. She holds a CFA designation and brings deep expertise in insurtech, venture capital, and financial services.
Laura was Managing Director at Zego, the UK's first insurtech unicorn, where she led behaviour-based insurance for fleet motor customers. She previously invested in high-growth technology companies at Atomico, headed strategy and financial planning at Improbable, and spent five years in equity research covering European TMT at Morgan Stanley.
Laura holds a Bachelor of Arts in Natural Sciences (Chemistry) from the University of Cambridge. She also served as Chief of Staff at Zego and has experience across insurance, technology, and venture capital.
Lateral raised 2.5 million pounds (approximately 3.4 million dollars) in seed funding led by Augmentum, with support from Triple Point and TinyVC. The company launched the Lateral Health Plan, combining private healthcare cover, care navigation, and preventive wellbeing benefits.
Lateral is targeting over 14.5 million people in the UK currently over 60, a market set to exceed 17 million by 2040. The company addresses a 2.18 billion dollar self-pay healthcare market with transparent pricing starting at 150 pounds per month for eligible members.
