Le Cong

Le Cong is Scientific Co-Founder at Phylo, an AI-powered integrated biology environment transforming biomedical research. He is also an Assistant Professor of Pathology and Genetics at Stanford University.
Le earned his PhD from Harvard Medical School under Feng Zhang, where he co-authored the seminal 2013 Science paper demonstrating CRISPR/Cas9 for genome editing, one of the most highly cited papers in the field. He holds a BS with highest honors from Tsinghua University and completed postdoctoral work at the Broad Institute under Aviv Regev.
Le holds over 16 issued patents as co-inventor in CRISPR technologies and has led development of one of the first FDA-approved clinical trials employing in vivo CRISPR/Cas9 delivery. He was a Howard Hughes Medical Institute International Student Research Fellow and named to Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia.
At Stanford, Le's lab develops gene-editing technologies including novel CRISPR systems, large gene insertion techniques, and AI-powered tools like CRISPR-GPT for automating gene-editing experiments. His work integrates machine learning to design and evolve gene-editing proteins in silico.
Le's pioneering CRISPR work has been cited over 5,000 times and his lab's innovations span cancer immunotherapy, neuro-immune diseases, and AI-driven genomics. Phylo's Biomni platform is now used by 7,000+ research labs and 18 of the top 20 global pharmaceutical companies.
