Liam Fedus

Liam Fedus is Co-Founder of Periodic Labs, an AI-powered autonomous laboratory company on a mission to accelerate scientific discovery in materials science, chemistry, and the physical sciences.
Fedus holds a Ph.D. from Universite de Montreal and built his career as a physics researcher turned AI pioneer, working at Google Brain and then rising to VP of Post-Training at OpenAI.
At Google Brain, Fedus co-authored the Switch Transformer, scaling a mixture-of-experts architecture past 1 trillion parameters, and at OpenAI he was a core member of the team that created ChatGPT.
Fedus co-founded Periodic Labs in May 2025 alongside former Google DeepMind researcher Ekin Dogus Cubuk, raising a landmark $300M seed round backed by Andreessen Horowitz, Nvidia, Jeff Bezos, Eric Schmidt, and others.
Periodic Labs is building AI scientists paired with autonomous robotic laboratories to run thousands of experiments daily, targeting breakthroughs like high-temperature superconductors, with the company now in talks to raise $500M at a $7.5B valuation.
