Madhur Jain

Madhur Jain is Co-Founder and CEO at Varaha, a climate tech startup generating high-quality carbon credits through regenerative agriculture and nature-based solutions in South Asia and Africa. He was named to the TIME100 Climate 2024 list for his work incentivizing sustainable farming practices that keep carbon in the ground.
Madhur holds an MBA from Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad and has over 10 years of experience in agriculture enterprises. He previously served as Digital Business Lead at Indigo Ag in South Asia, building three business verticals from scratch, and as India Country Director at Precision Agriculture for Development (PxD), co-founded by Nobel laureate Michael Kremer, where he grew the farmer base from 5,000 to over 615,000.
Under Madhur's leadership, Varaha has removed over 2 million tons of carbon dioxide across 14 active projects and became the first in India to issue biochar carbon credits and first in Asia to issue enhanced rock weathering credits. Varaha works with 170,000 to 175,000 farmers across 1.7 million acres and has secured offtake agreements with Google, Microsoft, Lufthansa, Swiss Re, and Capgemini.
Madhur co-founded Varaha in 2022 with his wife Ankita Garg (COO) and Vishal Kuchanur (CTO), raising $33 million in equity plus $35 million in project financing to date. The company recently announced a $45 million Series B round led by WestBridge Capital and operates across India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Ivory Coast.
Varaha has issued approximately 150,000 carbon removal credits and reported revenue of $4.76 million last year, expecting to reach $11 million this year while remaining profitable. The platform increases farmer income by 7 to 11 percent through carbon credits while improving soil fertility, water conservation, and biodiversity through regenerative practices.
