Maria Rosén Klement

Maria Rosén Klement, PhD, is Co-Founder and Scientific Advisor at PainDrainer AB, a Swedish digital health company developing an AI-powered self-management platform for chronic pain patients. She brings a unique personal and scientific perspective to the mission, as she herself lives with chronic pain.
Maria served as a Research Coordinator at Lund University's Department of Immunotechnology, based at Medicon Village in Lund, and also held roles at the Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm University, and Create Health Translational Cancer Center.
The idea for PainDrainer was born from Maria's own experience participating in pain rehabilitation programs, where she realized that pain is influenced by far more daily factors than the human brain can track. Her personal journey directly shaped the patient-centric design philosophy at the core of the product.
Maria co-founded PainDrainer in 2018 alongside Prof. Carl Borrebaeck and IT specialist Göran Barkfors, and has contributed to peer-reviewed clinical research published in Pain Medicine, the journal of the American Academy of Pain Medicine. She also completed the SmiLe e-Campus entrepreneurship program to deepen her business acumen.
PainDrainer has raised over $7M, received FDA Medical Device Class 1 registration and CE certification, and was selected for Business Sweden's prestigious Catalyst scale-up program, positioning the company for global expansion in chronic pain management.
