Mario Souto, Ph.D., is Co-Founder and CTO of Soma Energy, an AI-powered energy intelligence platform that optimizes generation, storage, and consumption to unlock existing grid capacity for data centers and power producers.

Mario earned his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro and built his career as a scientist and engineer specializing in optimization, control, and machine learning.

As a research scientist at AWS, Mario built the machine learning platform used to manage gigawatts of solar, wind, and storage assets, and later served as tech lead at Equilibrium Energy developing high-performance optimization algorithms for grid-scale batteries.

Mario co-founded Soma Energy in February 2024 alongside CEO Ath Caramanolis and Chief AI Scientist Henrique Hoeltgebaum, collectively bringing over 20 years of experience trading power across major U.S. energy markets.

Soma Energy has raised $7 million in seed and pre-seed funding, is currently optimizing 2 GW of electricity for power-producing clients, and is actively serving five data center customers across North America.
