Mark Harman

Mark Harman is a Research Scientist at Meta and Professor of Software Engineering at University College London, renowned for co-founding the field of Search Based Software Engineering (SBSE).
Harman graduated from Imperial College London in 1988 with a degree in software engineering and spent 25 years in academia before joining Facebook in 2017.
He received both the IEEE Harlan D. Mills Award and ACM SIGSOFT Outstanding Research Award in 2019, and was elected Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2020.
In 2016, Harman co-founded MaJiCKe Limited, which created the Sapienz automated testing tool that was acquired by Facebook in 2017. He founded and directed CREST at UCL from 2006 to 2017.
Sapienz has been deployed at Meta since 2017, testing apps used by over 2.6 billion people daily and finding thousands of bugs across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp.
