Mark Murcko is Co-Founder and Board Member at Relay Therapeutics, a clinical-stage precision medicine company pioneering protein motion-based drug discovery. He served as founding Chief Scientific Officer from 2016 to 2018 and is a Senior Lecturer at MIT's Department of Biological Engineering.

Mark earned his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Yale University and began his career at Merck, where he contributed to the discovery of dorzolamide (Trusopt), the first marketed drug from structure-based drug design. He then joined Vertex Pharmaceuticals in 1990 as a founding scientist, eventually becoming Chief Technology Officer and serving for 30 years until 2021.

Mark has directly contributed to nine marketed drugs spanning glaucoma, HIV, HCV, and cystic fibrosis, including Vertex's Incivek, Agenerase, Lexiva, and four CF drugs (Kalydeco, Orkambi, Symdeco, Trikafta). He is a co-inventor on more than 50 issued patents, has delivered over 230 invited lectures, and has co-authored more than 85 scientific articles.

Beyond Relay, Mark was founding CSO at Dewpoint Therapeutics (2018-2021) and serves on multiple biotech boards including Octant, Morphic Therapeutic, and Quentis Therapeutics. He has helped launch and guide over 15 organizations as a board member, advisor, or founding scientist.

Relay Therapeutics went public in July 2020, raising approximately $400M in its IPO after securing $520M in total funding including a $400M Series C led by SoftBank Vision Fund. The company is advancing multiple oncology programs through clinical trials using its proprietary Dynamo platform that visualizes protein motion for drug discovery.
