Martin G. Tolsgaard, MD, PhD, DMSc, is Chief Medical Officer and Co-Founder at Prenaital, an AI-powered prenatal care platform transforming high-risk pregnancy detection. He is also a Professor of Obstetrics at Copenhagen University Hospital Rigshospitalet and an expert in using AI and simulation technologies to augment clinical performance.
Martin specialized in Obstetrics and Gynecology from 2011 to 2019 and has been conducting research on AI support for medical diagnostics since 2019. He holds a PhD and DrMedSci from the University of Copenhagen and has published over 90 research papers with an H-index of 22.
Martin recognized critical limitations in prenatal screening methods while working as a fetal medicine specialist at Denmark's largest university hospital. He has been responsible for several research projects examining how AI can improve the safety of doctors' diagnoses and has over 3,164 citations in medical education and fetal medicine research.
Prenaital was founded in September 2024 as a spinout from DTU and University of Copenhagen, securing $630,000 in initial funding and later $1.57 million through BioInnovation Institute's Venture House program. The company's AI models can detect 25-35% more high-risk pregnancies than existing clinical practice.
Prenaital's technology addresses a critical healthcare gap where less than half of all at-risk pregnancies are currently identified through standard screening. The company achieved ISO 13485 certification and is pursuing a US-first market strategy, with first products expected to launch in 2026 across the US, EU, and Denmark.
