Matin Tamizi

Matin Tamizi is the Founder and CEO of Imperfect, his latest venture, and a seasoned serial entrepreneur with deep roots in fintech and payments innovation. Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Matin has spent his career building technology companies that challenge the status quo and expand financial access.
Matin studied Computer Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park, and began his career in product management at JDSU before moving into the startup world via Milo.com, a local shopping search engine. His formative experience as an undocumented immigrant in the US for five years deeply informs his mission-driven approach to building companies.
Matin co-founded Balanced, a YC and a16z-backed online payments and escrow platform that processed over $500M in card volume in 2014, establishing him as a credible force in fintech infrastructure. He then founded Cuenca in 2018, a Mexico City-based neobank targeting the underserved bottom 95% of Latin Americans, backed by investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Stripe, and Kaszek.
Cuenca raised $9.6M across three funding rounds and built a digital banking platform offering SPEI transfers, savings, and lending to users across Mexico. Matin's career spans payments infrastructure, consumer fintech, and now his newest chapter with Imperfect.
Across Balanced and Cuenca, Matin has helped move hundreds of millions of dollars in payments volume and expanded financial access to underbanked populations across Latin America. With Imperfect, he continues his track record of building purpose-driven technology companies from the ground up.
