Matthias Gruber is Co-Founder of fonio.ai, a Vienna-based AI startup transforming phone-based customer communication for SMEs across Europe. He co-founded the company in autumn 2024 alongside Daniel Keinrath, whom he met through the Sigma Squared Society.

Matthias began coding at age 14, became the European Champion in web development, and launched his first profitable SaaS at just 17. He previously held roles at Sigma Squared Society, Forbes, and Platomics, building a track record of scaling products to over 100,000 users.

Matthias brings a builder-first mindset, having grown multiple products from zero to scale and managed departments of nearly 100 people before co-founding fonio.ai. His technical depth and product intuition have been central to fonio.ai's rapid growth and market leadership in DACH.

fonio.ai raised a 3M euro angel round in just 11 days from 13 top European investors including a Sequoia Scout, and followed up with a $17M seed round from 20VC at a $140M valuation. The company bootstrapped to profitability from day one and acquired Linz-based competitor fluently in September 2025.

fonio.ai now serves over 7,000 customers across nine markets, processes more than 2 million AI-handled calls per month, and is expanding into six new offices including New York, London, and Paris.
