Maxim Fateev

Maxim Fateev is Co-Founder and CTO at Temporal Technologies, an open-source durable execution platform that simplifies building reliable distributed applications. He invented the concept of durable execution and previously served as CEO before transitioning to CTO in April 2024.
Maxim spent over 20 years building distributed systems at Amazon, Microsoft, Google, and Uber. At AWS, he led development of Simple Workflow Service and SQS storage backend, and at Uber he created the Cadence workflow engine, predecessor to Temporal.
Maxim holds a Master of Science in Computer Science from Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and a Physics degree from Moscow State University. He co-founded Temporal in 2019 with Samar Abbas, his long-time collaborator from Amazon and Uber.
Temporal has raised $350M in total funding, reaching a $1.72B valuation as of March 2025, with over 183,000 weekly active developers. The platform has been deployed in over 7 million unique clusters and is used by companies like Netflix, Datadog, Snap, and Uber for mission-critical workflows.
Under Maxim's technical leadership, Temporal has become the industry standard for workflow orchestration, processing millions of workflows daily. The platform evolved from his decade-plus work on AWS SWF and Uber Cadence, now serving Fortune 500 enterprises and thousands of startups globally.
