Maxim Konovalov

Maxim Konovalov is Co-Founder and VP of Engineering at NGINX, the world's most popular web server software that powers over 30% of websites globally. He co-founded NGINX, Inc. in July 2011 with Igor Sysoev and Andrew Alexeev to commercialize the open-source web server technology.
Maxim worked at Rambler, a major Russian internet portal, where he met Igor Sysoev and helped transition NGINX from an open-source project into a commercial company. He brought business and engineering expertise to complement Igor's technical vision.
Maxim played a critical role in NGINX's growth from a startup to a $670 million acquisition by F5 Networks in 2019. He served as VP of Engineering and helped scale the company through multiple funding rounds totaling $84M.
NGINX raised Series A funding of $3M in 2011 from BV Capital, Runa Capital, and MSD Capital, followed by $10M Series B in 2013 and $43M Series C in 2018. The company grew to over 200 employees with offices in San Francisco, Cork, and Singapore.
NGINX software now powers hundreds of millions of websites and is the most commonly deployed technology in Docker containers. After the F5 acquisition, Maxim continued leading engineering efforts to expand NGINX's product portfolio into application delivery, API management, and security solutions.
