Michael Spencer

Michael Spencer is Founder and CEO of Zeno, an electric mobility and battery-as-a-service company democratizing access to energy storage and electric mobility in emerging markets. He holds an MBA from Yale School of Management and has over a decade of experience building climate-focused businesses across East Africa, the U.S., and Europe.
Before founding Zeno in 2022, Michael spent four years at Tesla in various leadership roles including Model 3 production ramp-up, supercharger network deployment, and managing teams in manufacturing, logistics, and solar energy. He also founded and led several organizations including WHB Ltd. and Studio Re, Design and Development, Inc.
Michael is a serial entrepreneur focused on emerging market infrastructure, healthcare, and technology. He earned his BA in Environmental Design from Montana State University, graduating summa cum laude.
Zeno raised $9.5 million in an oversubscribed seed round in 2024 led by Lowercarbon Capital and Toyota Ventures. The company launched its first electric motorcycle, the Emara, in India in May 2025 with deliveries planned for late 2025.
Zeno's swappable battery technology enables motorbike taxi drivers in East Africa to nearly double their take-home income by reducing fuel costs. The company aims to scale production to 50,000 to 70,000 units annually by end of 2025 and targets 100% CAGR growth over the next five years.
