Mitchell Fogelson

Mitchell Fogelson is Founder and CEO at Beyond Reach Labs, a robotics and aerospace company developing deployable structures for rapid infrastructure deployment in remote and demanding locations.
Mitchell earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and holds bachelor's and master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Robotics from the University of Pennsylvania. He spent two years as a robotics researcher at Rakuten Institute of Technology in Tokyo, developing robotic systems for warehouse logistics and last mile delivery.
Mitchell's research was funded through a NASA NIAC grant exploring kilometer-scale space structures for artificial gravity, leading to the invention of Pop-Up Extending Trusses (PETS) and Hierarchical High-Expansion Ratio Deployable Structures (HERDS). He has published research in the Journal of Mechanical Design on AI-driven linkage design and conducted Zero-G flight experiments testing deployable structures in microgravity.
Beyond Reach Labs secured nearly $100K in non-dilutive funding through grants and competitions, with technology applications in deployable communication towers for disaster relief, ultra-compact stretchers, and lunar habitat construction. The company holds two patent-pending designs addressing transportation volume constraints and on-site labor limitations.
Mitchell's work tackles critical challenges in deploying structures from compact volumes to large-scale applications, with his NASA research focusing on kilometer-scale deployable space structures that can be launched from a single rocket. His AI and optimization tools address some of the world's toughest engineering challenges in both terrestrial and space applications.
