Nate Mitchell

Nate Mitchell is Co-Founder and former VP of Product at Oculus, the pioneering virtual reality company that revolutionized immersive technology and was acquired by Facebook for $2 billion in 2014.
Mitchell co-founded Oculus in July 2012 alongside Palmer Luckey, Brendan Iribe, Michael Antonov, and Andrew Scott Reisse, launching the groundbreaking Kickstarter campaign that raised $2.4 million and sparked the modern VR revolution.
As VP of Product and Head of Rift, Mitchell led hardware and software development for seven years, overseeing the evolution from duct-taped prototypes to consumer-ready headsets that defined a new computing platform. He attended Dickinson College and was recognized for his design thinking approach to building cross-functional teams in an emerging industry.
After leaving Oculus in 2019, Mitchell founded Mountaintop Studios in 2020, a remote-first game studio focused on multiplayer games that raised $30 million and launched Spectre Divide. In 2025, he joined Sesame as Chief Product Officer, reuniting with former Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe to build AI-powered smart glasses.
Oculus grew from 10 employees at Kickstarter launch to over 100 at acquisition, pioneering modern VR with products like the Rift and Samsung Gear VR that brought immersive experiences to millions of users worldwide. The company raised $91 million in funding before the Facebook acquisition and helped establish virtual reality as the next major computing platform.
