Nate Smith

Nate Smith is Co-Founder and CTO at Collate, an AI-native platform automating regulatory documentation and compliance workflows for the life sciences industry. He brings deep engineering leadership and a proven track record of scaling enterprise SaaS platforms from the ground up.
Nate earned his degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Olin College of Engineering (Class of 2007) and went on to serve as a Product Manager at Google, where he led the first major redesign of Google Image Search, launched in 2010.
Nate is also the author of open-source frameworks ShareDB and DerbyJS, reflecting his commitment to real-time collaborative software and developer tooling. He served as a Visiting Group Partner at Y Combinator, advising early-stage startups across cohorts.
Before Collate, Nate co-founded Lever (YC S12), a leading Talent Acquisition Suite, where he served as both CEO and CTO, raised $123M in funding, and led the company to a $517M acquisition by Employ in 2022. At Collate, he leads technology, product architecture, and engineering execution.
Collate emerged from stealth in January 2025 with a $30M seed round led by Redpoint Ventures, and has since grown to nearly 50 enterprise customers and raised a total of $125M, reaching a valuation approaching $1 billion. The platform is recognized on the Forbes 2025 Next Billion Dollar Startups list.
