Nathan Beckmann

Nathan Beckmann is Co-Founder and Chief Scientist at Efficient Computer, a chip company commercializing ultra-energy-efficient processors for edge AI and embedded computing. He is also an Associate Professor at Carnegie Mellon University in Computer Science and Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Nathan earned his PhD and MS from MIT, where both theses won awards as the best in Computer Science in their respective years. He also holds BS degrees in Computer Science and Mathematics from UCLA, graduating summa cum laude as the 2008 Bachelor of the Year.
Nathan is a 2024 Sloan Research Fellow, NSF CAREER Award winner, and member of the SIGMICRO Hall of Fame. His research on data center caches is widely deployed at Meta, and he leads the CORGi research group at CMU.
Efficient Computer raised $16M in seed funding in 2024 led by Eclipse Ventures, and recently closed a $60M Series A in February 2026, bringing total funding to $76M. The company launched its Electron E1 processor, delivering 10x to 100x better energy efficiency than commercial ultralow-power CPUs.
The Electron E1 processor achieves up to 1 TOPS/W efficiency using a novel Fabric spatial dataflow architecture. Efficient Computer has partnered with GlobalFoundries and is sampling silicon with early customers across industrial, aerospace, defense, and IoT verticals.
