Nikolay Samokhvalov is Founder and CEO at Postgres.ai, a database optimization platform that enables instant database cloning and AI-powered testing for PostgreSQL.

Nikolay studied Computer Science at Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and has worked with PostgreSQL since 2005. He co-founded three social networks in Russia, including MoiKrug (acquired by Yandex), and contributed to PostgreSQL core as a Google Summer of Code participant.

Nikolay founded the RuPostgres user group (2000+ members) and created multiple open-source tools including Database Lab Engine, postgres_dba, and rpg. He hosts Postgres.tv and Postgres.fm, leading educational initiatives in the PostgreSQL community.

Postgres.ai raised a Pre-Seed round in January 2021 and serves companies like GitLab, Supabase, Chewy, Miro, and Midjourney. The company developed Database Lab Engine, which enables cloning of multi-terabyte databases in seconds using thin-cloning technology.

Postgres.ai helped GitLab achieve zero-downtime Postgres upgrades and assisted Supabase in reaching 7 TiB per hour restore speeds. The platform has been instrumental in automating database testing and optimization for development teams worldwide.
