Patrick Collison

Patrick Collison is Co-Founder and CEO of Stripe, a global financial infrastructure platform that processes over $1.4 trillion in annual payment volume. Born in Ireland, he won the Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition at age 16 for creating a LISP-type programming language.
Patrick attended MIT studying Mathematics but dropped out in 2009 to pursue entrepreneurship. At age 19, he and his brother John sold their first company, Auctomatic, to Live Current Media for $5 million.
Patrick co-founded the Arc Institute in 2021 to advance biomedical research in partnership with Stanford, UCSF, and UC Berkeley. He co-authored the concept of Progress Studies with Tyler Cowen and launched Fast Grants to fund COVID-19 research.
Stripe raised $9.81 billion across 24 funding rounds and reached a $91.5 billion valuation as of February 2025. The company serves millions of businesses including Amazon, Ford, and Shopify, and operates in over 52 countries.
Under Patrick's leadership, Stripe became the world's most valuable private fintech company and processes payments for over 100 companies that each handle more than $1 billion annually. The Collison brothers became the world's youngest self-made billionaires in 2016 and were recognized on Forbes 30 Under 30 and TIME's 100 Most Influential People.
