Rafał Modrzewski

Rafal Modrzewski is Co-Founder and CEO at ICEYE, the world's largest synthetic aperture radar satellite constellation providing Earth observation data for defense, insurance, and disaster response. ICEYE pioneered miniaturizing SAR satellites to below 100 kg, enabling all-weather imaging day and night.
Rafal studied Electrical Engineering at Warsaw University of Technology and Radio Science at Aalto University, where he led the on-board data handling team for Finland's first nanosatellite. He researched innovative products at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland before co-founding ICEYE in 2012.
Rafal holds multiple patents in SAR satellite technology and received Forbes 30 Under 30 Technology (2018), Finnish Engineering Award (2019), and recognition as one of the European Patent Office's 50 Leading Tech Voices (2023). He reached profitability in 2025 with revenues doubling to approximately 200 million euros.
ICEYE raised over 650 million in funding reaching a 2.8 billion valuation in December 2025, with Series E led by General Catalyst. The company has launched 62 satellites and secured major defense contracts including a 1.76 billion euro deal with Germany.
ICEYE operates the world's largest commercial SAR constellation with over 700 employees across Finland, Poland, Spain, UK, and USA. The company provides critical intelligence to governments and organizations, supporting Ukraine's defense and delivering natural catastrophe monitoring for rapid disaster response.
