Ram Rajagopal

Ram Rajagopal is Co-Founder and CTO of GridCARE, a Stanford-born AI company pioneering the Power Acceleration category to solve the most urgent bottleneck in the AI economy: immediate access to power. He is a tenured Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, currently on leave to build GridCARE.
Ram earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences and an M.A. in Statistics from UC Berkeley, a Masters in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He directs the Stanford Sustainable Systems Lab (S3L), focused on large-scale data analytics and stochastic control for power networks.
Ram brings a rare combination of deep academic research and serial entrepreneurship, having founded three startups and mastered bridging AI innovation with real-world energy infrastructure challenges. He previously served as Chief Scientific Advisor at AutoGrid, an AI-powered energy software company later acquired by Schneider Electric, and as Lead Scientist at Sensys Networks.
At GridCARE, Ram leads the technical vision behind the Energize platform, which uses physics-based AI to evaluate quadrillions of grid conditions in real time, compressing data center interconnection timelines from years to months. The company emerged from the Stanford Sustainability Accelerator and has partnered with major utilities including Portland General Electric, Pacific Gas and Electric, and National Grid.
GridCARE raised a $13.5M Seed round in 2025 and a $64M oversubscribed Series A in 2026 led by Sutter Hill Ventures and John Doerr, and has unlocked more than $10 billion in economic value for data center developers. The company was named to Fast Company's World's Most Innovative Companies for 2026 and is engaged in projects representing over 2 gigawatts of prospective AI compute capacity.
