Rob DeMillo

Rob DeMillo is Co-Founder and CEO at Sophia Space, pioneering modular space-based data centers for AI and edge computing in orbit. He also serves as Venture Partner at SparkLabs Global Ventures.
Rob was a research scientist at NASA JPL and MIT Lincoln Laboratory, applying technology to planetary science and aviation safety research. He later became a serial entrepreneur with 7 acquisitions and IPOs out of 9 companies.
Rob was named to EContent's Top 15 Digital Media Influencers in 2012, listed alongside Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg. He served as CTO at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, the first in the firm's 80+ year history.
Rob co-founded and led technology at Transpera (acquired by Tremor Media), Third Screen Media (acquired by AOL), and Nimble Collective (acquired by Amazon Web Services). He managed over 1,000 engineers as SVP at VeriSign following the m-Qube acquisition.
Sophia Space raised $3.5M in pre-seed funding in 2025 and recently closed a $10M seed round to accelerate development of orbital computing infrastructure. The company is building TILE technology for satellites, defense systems, and commercial space stations to process data directly in orbit.
