Roberto Díez

Dr. Roberto Díez is the Co-Founder and COO of Telum Therapeutics, a Spanish biotechnology company pioneering engineered phage lytic proteins to combat multidrug-resistant bacterial infections.
Roberto brings over 13 years of deep expertise in the antibiotics sector, conducting research on phage lytic enzymes at prestigious institutions including the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and Rockefeller University in New York, and previously served as CEO of Ikan Biotech.
Holding a PhD, Executive MBA, and MSc, Roberto co-founded Telum in 2019 driven by the urgent global need to address antimicrobial resistance, which the WHO has declared one of the ten biggest threats to global health.
Under his scientific leadership, Telum developed the proprietary APEX platform combining synthetic biology, metagenomic datasets, and generative AI to engineer next-generation enzybiotics targeting deadly pathogens like Acinetobacter baumannii.
Telum has raised over 22 million euros in total funding, including an 18 million euro Series A led by AMR Action Fund, advancing its lead program targeting hospital-acquired and ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia into Phase 1 clinical development.
